February 29, 2008 - The Golden State Warriors have played in many different arenas as the years have gone on. The team got its start in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and has played in seven different arenas over the course of their play.
Philadelphia Arena (1946-62)
February 29, 2008 - The arena was opened on Valentine's Day (February 14) in 1920. It was originally named the Philadelphia Ice Palace and Auditorium. It was located next to the famous WFIL TV Studio that broadcast American Bandstand. The first event to take place at this stadium was the Yale Bulldogs against the Princeton Tigers in hockey. The Bulldogs won 4-0 to a crowd of 4,000. It was later auctioned off and renamed after Martin Luther King Jr, however, the building fell out of regular use in the '70's and was torn down in 1983.
Oracle Arena (1997-present)
February 29, 2008 - The Oracle Arena, also known as the Oakland Coliseum Arena, the Oakland Arena, the Arena in Oakland, and the New Arena is located in Oakland, California. Groundbreaking for the construction of the arena started in 1964, and it opened in 1966. Cost of construction was $121 million dollars, with a renovation in 1997. It has a capacity of 19,596 people, but held 20,711 during the 2008 Warriors-Celtics game.
